Himalayan Health, Research & Education Foundation (HHREF) is a for-profit, non-distributing company based in Kathmandu and Dang.

We are not an NGO — every rupee of profit we generate is reinvested back into strengthening health, education and a resilient environment in Nepal — not to individuals.

Nepal’s greatest loss is not geography — it is the wasted potential of people who never get fair access to knowledge, opportunity, or systems that help them rise.
HHREF exists to change that — sustainably.

We promote research, innovation and bold ideas that transform communities — especially in rural and remote areas. We recognise and award public health workers, educators and activists whose work advances health for all, education for all and a resilient environment.

We also create paid apprenticeship opportunities for young talent — immersing them directly in communities where change is most needed, while also allowing them to experience the landscape, culture and lived realities of Nepal.

We promote research and innovation in public health, education and the environment through the followings:

A. Award individuals and/or institutions

Every year, the Himalayan Health, Research, and Education Foundation (HHREF) awards three individuals or institutions who have contributed to public health and education with their innovative initiatives or ideas.

Research & Innovation in Health, Education & Environment

We champion new knowledge, evidence and ideas that create real-world impact. HHREF supports research, drives innovation, and accelerates development initiatives that strengthen public health, education and environmental resilience in Nepal — especially in underserved and rural communities.

We offer paid research and testing of your innovation.

Paid internship, training and apprenticeship – Experiential Learning in Nepal

HHREF offers paid internships, training and apprenticeship opportunities within the Foundation and its affiliated institutions. These experiences immerse young professionals directly in communities — and also facilitate tourism and adventure across Nepal's mountains, cultural landscapes and wildlife regions.

The profit generated from these programs is reinvested to strengthen health, education and environmental systems in underprivileged areas of Nepal.
